About Hongli:

I am a postgraduate student working at Swansea University to complete my research project. The overarching of this project is investigating how microorganisms affect microalgal growth. We will conduct algal cultivation from small to large scale and use multi-omics-based approaches (metagenomics and metatranscriptomics) to identify the key microbes in the microalgal microbiomes and their function and contribution to microalgal health.

Biography

I have obtained an MRes in Bioengineering at the University of Chinese Academy of Sciences in 2022. My research projects focused on the evolution of green algae. In brief, I have been involved in projects that necessitate sequencing and assembling the genomes of green algae, and then utilizing phylogenetics and comparative genomics to address multiple essential questions regarding the evolution of green plants. As an researcher, I am ardently devoted to advancing the field of algal genomics by discoverying novel ways to utilize the distinctive characteristics of algae to tackle urgent environmental issues.
